Emotional process and enduring relational themes
In this didactic and experiential workshop we will explore the connection between our emotional process and our enduring relational themes. Emotions are signals to us about what matters in our lives in general, as well as in specific situations. When we lack skill with certain emotions, our lives become constricted. The notion of enduring relational themes peaks to habits and expectations that infuse our experience of our “world.” Enduring relational themes are an alternative to the classic concept of transference. It is a notion that opens a doorway to working with “transference themes” in a more here-and-now therapeutic process. I will explain those concepts further, and then we will do an experiential exercise that will illuminate certain themes. There will also be time for some demonstration work.
